This is not actually a linux bug, windows version is also suffering from this, but I rather report it here than in steam forum.

When you join flail with a sword or axe, on right-click on sword or axe it starts swinging. But when the axe is swinging in the right direction (sharp-side first), the sword is swinging blunt-side first, even if you turn it before joining.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. When you combine the flail with a sword or an axe and you try to rotate the sword/axe, the flail starts swinging on its own?
Then you speak of the sword being turned in the wrong direction and mention trying to turn it before joining. Combined weapons turn independently, you should be able to turn the sword as you like.

Yes, that's what I meant. Not every sword/axe/flail will work, but many. You can try it yourself. E.g. steel whip + broadsword is my favorite.

I just checked the possibility, that sword starts rotating in the predefined direction, and I just have to adjust the sword before joining, but I was wrong. The sword starts rotating exactly in the blunt-side direction.

Sorry, if it's happening in Windows too, then it's working as expected on Linux.
