=+ -> +=

I think this is fairly obvious once you notice it: there is a =+ which looks like it should be a +=. There is the question of why AVIs I've made work anyway, but however I look at it the current behaviour seems unintentional so I think this is more "lucky escape" than "obscure design".

The bug was originally reported by bubu^ in #ioquake3 on 6th September.
