Description Jay Welty 2004-04-02 10:35:15 EST
I don't know how much communication Dr. Sin and Ryan have, but it seems that
Dr. Sin's new UTSecure sees the Mac client as a hack and kicks them off the
server with "You have been forcibly removed from the server. Player skins
failed md5."

Thanks,

Jay

I get this repeatedly from Atari Official Servers...and have had (some) luck playing with independent
servers.

in addition to Atari servers mentioned above, the "UT 2004 Server", ****-Lethal_clanServer*****,
PortCity Shoot-Out, etc... have same problem

if it helps

It seems to be any server with UTSecure running; we're looking into why the Mac
version incorrectly reports the checksum of some files.

Is it possible (or feasible) to take the incorrect Mac checksums and make
UTSecure think they're legitimate anyway? I doubt that hackers could modify
their files to have the same checksums.

Any word on this? It's been over a week since a server side patch was supposed to come out and all
that's happened as far as I can see is that the discussion posts about UT Secure 1.1 have been
unstickied, UTSecure 1.1 servers are becoming more prevalent and I *still* can't connect to them...
Comment 8 Dennis Brunskill 2004-04-21 07:32:21 EDT
4/21/04 and the UTSecure problem is still not fixed excluding any Mac client from servers with
UTSecure. Now Dr. Sin posting on the Atari forums about a forth comming UT2K4 patch which will
include UTSecure. ARRRRGH!

Okay, this has been fixed internally forever, but getting an official patch
through QA is taking way too long, so here's an unofficial one:

  http://icculus.org/~icculus/tmp/ut2004-mac-patch-3186-1-UNOFFICIAL.dmg.bz2

Please be aware that while that patch works fine for me (and fixes a few things
in addition to UTSecure), you use it at your own risk, and if we end up going
through another revision internally, you're going to be reinstalling the game
from scratch before installing the official patch. This is a pain, I know.

That being said, it's likely going to be the exact same file that MacSoft will
be handing out sooner or later, so it might be worth taking a chance.

I can confirm the fix. It downloaded a UTSecure 1.11 file on first connection
and no problems since. I didn't try replicating the VoIP crasher but this bug
looks fixed to me.

*kneels down in icculus' general direction and worships*

Just to follow up, the "UNOFFICIAL" patch I posted here is actually the official one, now. Besides the
filename, they are identical, so if anyone was holding off, you should consider it safe to use it.
