For example if you cancel the installation while the installer is copying the files or there is another error (e.g. the file from the binary tag is missing) the  exit code is '3'. If you you was running the gtk2 installer setup.sh would launch the gtk installer and if the exit code is '3' again it would launch the console installer so one.

Exit codes have been a long-standing problem, and the solution is not always that simple. I'll see if this patch works well.
