Is anyone ever going to fix this game? Contacted the Humble Bundle support several times and about the best reply I've gotten is "Sorry for the inconvenience. There are a number of mostly innocuous but overlapping factors making these issues particularly sticky. We're still working towards fixes, but we understand that the extensive delay might simply be unreasonable."...after being told several times to contact the developer/porter. So how about this.. If there's something going on that is preventing ANY of these bugs from being fixed you atleast give us a status update? Like for example if nothing is ever going to be done or if it will take 6 months due to major complications/personal issues I think we deserve to know that. Looking at the many game breaking bugs here every few days and not getting so much as a "sorry you're screwed" or "we're doing our best" is a bit depressing. So please do us a favor and give us something to go on, because otherwise we're all just in the dark getting more and more irritated. I think we've been more than patient considering.

I feel the same. At first I was like "A linux port, awesome ! Many minor bugs, but this is good work, and they will be fixed quickly". But now I'm just disappointed. And I bought the bundle only to play SMB on Linux.

Please, just give us some information !

Thirded. I've stopped playing Super Meat Boy on Linux, waiting for the bugs to be ironed out, before I can start again.

It would be wonderful to get some feedback on the process. At the moment, it feels like these bugs are being ignored. Or at least the bug reports. Wish I could help out in some way.

My wife and I had a baby in January, which took a lot of our time before she was born, and even more now that she's here.

There are definitely plans to fix the SMB issues, but my workload hasn't decreased, plus there's a newborn piled on top of that, so things (important things!) are falling through the cracks.

You have my apologies; this is definitely taking longer than I'd like to get around to, but it hasn't been forgotten.

Thanks Ryan. Appreciate the comment. Not feeling so ignored now, so I'm more hopeful that things will get fixed. Keep us updated!

Congratulations on the baby! May I suggest that it only takes one hand to rock the cradle during those late night crying fits, leaving the other free to code fix. Added bonus is the baby quickly learns comfort in the cool glow of the computer screen. Good training for the future.

Yes, that was tongue in cheek. ;)

Congratulations ! :)

And thanks a lot for the feedback ! There is no hurry, I think we just all needed to know if anything was going to happen.

Thanks for the response and congrats! I hope things get easier for you soon and look forward to seeing fixes when you're able to make them. :)

Hi Ryan. Time for a monthly update on how little was done to fix the issues in Super Meat Boy, and how many dirty nappies you've had to change. Give it to us, we can handle anything. Anything, except details on those dirty nappies.

Another month, another call for a status update. My Super Meat Boy grows cold and rancid with time.

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone's listening...

I've been checking this bug every few days for months now and continue to be disappointed. I guess new projects are more fun and/or profitable than fixing bugs for games people have already bought.

It's funny that you seem to have plenty of time to take on new ports and projects (Psychonauts, Cogs, etc), but somehow there are insurmountable obstacles on finishing the SMB port.
Comment 11 davek 2012-06-03 10:18:52 EDT
Now now, boys. It's a tough situation, and I certainly appreciate Ryan working on the bugs in other projects, like Psychonauts, which I bought in the latest humble bundle.

I'd help out if I could. Not likely I'd get access to the source code, though. Beta testing compiled code, maybe?

Updates will be coming soon; your patience is appreciated.

Thanks for the update Ryan, it's been 6 long months since this port was released and I know you've had your hands full with life and other titles, but in my opinion the games which were already released should have come second to your family instead of third after the new games. We'll all appreciate when these problems are fixed regardless and I hope everything is going well for you. --Aaron

(I'm changing several bugs at once, sorry if you get this message multiple times.)

Humble Indie Bundle #5 is adding Super Meat Boy (among other games) to the promotion today, and we've updated the Linux build with several fixes for it. This will be available at the same time to people that purchased SMB through Humble Indie Bundle #4, too.

I'm updating this bug because I believe this new build fixes the issue reported here. Unless there is an objection, this bug will be marked as RESOLVED FIXED soon.

For those that want the complete package, just redownload the game from humblebundle.com, using your existing download URL. You can run uninstall-supermeatboy.sh in your installation before installing the new copy; your save games will survive.

For those that don't want to redownload the whole game, here's just the changed files (3 megabyte download). Unpack it and overwrite the appropriate files in your installation with the new version.

    http://treefort.icculus.org/smb/smb-build2-changed-files.tar.bz2

Please note that this build does not resolve every bug reported in Bugzilla, but it should be much better than the original build.

Comment 15 Ryan C. Gordon 2012-06-08 03:47:42 EDT

Closing several bugs as RESOLVED FIXED. Please reopen them if you're still having this issue in the new build.

Please open a new bug, or CC yourself on an existing bug, if you're (still) having a different issue.

Thanks!
