Description JPL 2012-06-03 14:46:22 EDT
I can't hear music at any point during the game's first few levels (haven't played further yet), eg the starting camp area and Coach Oleander's mind, except during the Bink cutscenes.

I'm running the updated test build distributed earlier today in the archive called "psychonuts-linux-test-06032012.tar.bz2".

Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, no special audio options set. Hardware as reported by alsamixer is:
Card: HDA NVidia
Chip: Analog Devices AD1988B
Comment 1 Philipp Richter 2012-06-03 15:11:18 EDT
Only now it struck me as odd but I have this issue too, no music anywhere except for the cutscenes.

I'm using Gentoo with Gnome3, so PulseAudio.

This is particularly apparent when you collect emotional baggage. It is supposed to play a little jingle but the baggage just bounces around in silence.
Comment 3 Yotam Benshalom 2012-06-08 21:25:00 EDT
Same problem here. No sound on ubuntu 12.04, 64 bits, with nvidia proprietary drivers.
This is particularly sad in Mila's dance party - everyone is dancing and having fun but me, there is no music :-(

Minor correction - there is sound, but no music.

[Insert Me Too here]

There is music for the title screen but nowhere else.

Arch Linux, ALSA, running the updated 06042021

Milla's Dance Party is quite desolate without music.

One more with the same problem here, on Debian 6 and ALSA (without pulseaudio); music works in the "brain" title screen but it doesn't in game; other sounds play correctly.
And thank you Ryan, you are doing a great job; we know it takes lots of time and effort to make it all work.

Marking a bunch of rendering/sound/gameplay bugs as Priority 2.

I played through the entire game before realizing it was supposed to have music. The silent credits kinda tipped me off. I still don't get music after applying the 0.3 patch.

I am having this problem as well.

Forgot to include my system specs: Ubuntu 12.04 x64 (stable-updated drivers & apps as of today) with Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT/PCIe/SSE2.

I run Vista x64 on this machine as well, and the Steam version of Psychonauts runs perfectly.

Same issue here: openSUSE 12.1 x86_64 with pulseaudio.

Any update on this ?
Or any workaround ?

This will be fixed in 0.5.

I don't know how to ask this without sounding bossy or ungrateful (because I love your work and know you're very busy) but when is 0.5 going to roll off the belt?

The music is a huge part of this game -- to the point where I would suggest not playing it until it's all working.

I do believe it did yesterday. Check out the files page:

Just tried it and music works ! Thanks a lot for fixing this, Ryan !
I can finally continue playing this fantastic game :-)
Comment 18 Ryan C. Gordon 2012-08-17 22:34:09 EDT
Yeah, sorry, I didn't get a chance to update Bugzilla yet; 0.5 fixes this. Steam and Humble Bundle are updated, and Cyprian posted the link for the independent patches for Linux/Mac.

Marking this bug fixed!

Thank you!
Maybe you know ETA for 0.5 patch arriving to Ubuntu Software Center?
Comment 20 Kim Skråmo 2012-08-18 12:16:08 EDT
Thanks a ton for patching this, Ryan. Seems you've worked out a few fatal bugs as well, as the game is almost running without crashes now. It's definitely getting there.

runetmember: if you don't want to wait for Canonical to apply the patch, just download psychonauts-linux-0.5-patch.tar.bz2 from http://treefort.icculus.org/psychonauts/?C=M;O=D and extract it to your psychonauts folder. Works perfectly. Just back up the original files before you do it, and you'll be fine :)
Comment 21 russianneuromancer 2012-08-18 12:31:13 EDT
I know how to apply patch. Most of users who buy game in Ubuntu Software Center - doesn't know.
