Openoffice does not start - it displays a 'startup error' error message, and
after that nothing - I tried to launch it from xterm. Openoffice does work if I
am opening it from IceWM on the same machine

What version of OpenOffice? I've heard this reported for 1.0, but upgrading to
1.1 has always fixed it in the past.

I finally got OOo 1.1 beta to install correctly and it loaded fine in Openbox.
Any word on this from you?

Yes, it does work with Openoffice 1.1 (RC1) / Openbox 3.0. alpha 1
